Jamál Currie

October 19 through November 14, 2021

Jamál Currie has been making film, video, sculpture and installation art for more than 20 years. His work calls to mind matters of temporality, memory, travel, money and expanded notions of diaspora. His most recent work combines short-range LiDaR scans with scans of 3D printed busts. Collages composed of this imagery are then presented as a whole and as components for sale as NFTs. Currie has been the recipient of several awards and fellowships in Wisconsin and is currently a professor at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. He received his MFA from the University of South Florida-Tampa in 1998.

Aidentity Series Statement:

In this series of digital collages and components I’m imagining images of myself and friends and family as little artificial intelligences scouring the physical world, attempting to gain a more complete dataset by which to think about ourselves.
