STORY

Artist Statement:

Kelly radiates determination, compassion, and beauty. This piece represents her journey through breast cancer and decision to stay flat. Kelly survived with no small part due to her continuous self advocacy and determination. This is represented in the piece by each image of Kelly pulling herself up through stages of her cancer journey. The first time I spoke with Kelly, she described her daughter as her "little lifesaver." I included this support within the image by incorporating her daughter in each phase. As the image progresses up, the background becomes more cohesive representing the emotional changes throughout the process.
