BEYOND: 2025 MFA Thesis Exhibition Curatorial Statement

BEYOND brings together works by Michael Brzozowski, Alyssa Grace Olson, and Ross Owusu who explore various themes of transformation, identity, and migration.  Their articulation of physical and cultural landscapes along with working processes suggest metaphors for adaptability and resilience.

Images of water, shifting landscapes of cultural negotiation, and transformation of materials become central, but also metaphors for adaptability and resilience. The works challenge viewers to reflect on the personal and collective processes of change, questioning their place within a broader, interconnected community. By deconstructing and reassembling materials, reclaiming heritage, and engaging cosmic symbolism, the artists invite viewers to reflect on their own transitions and growth.

BEYOND is a space for discovery, one that makes the unseen visible and offers a platform for engaging with the emotional and psychological landscapes of transformation. Through a dynamic interplay of materiality and meaning, the exhibition creates an immersive experience.
